8 North Carolina's Second Oldest Railroad Depot
Found in downtown Thomasville, this depot is the second oldest depot left in North Carolina. The depot is also found on the National Register of Historic Places. The depot was completed in 1870 and has since been restored to preserve history. It is now the John W. Thomas Visitors' Center and contains memorabilia about Thomasville's history. 7 The Big Chair
Thomasville, home of Thomasville furniture, erected the chair made of wood and Swiss steer hide as tribute to the company in 1922. Exposure to the weather resulted in a complete overhaul in 1951 made of concrete. The enormous Duncan Phyfe armchair stands 30 feet tall. It may remind you of Lily Tomlin's Edith Ann, but at the very least it will make you smile!

6 World's Largest Chest of Drawers
This building was constructed to call attention to High Point as the "Home Furnishings Capital of the World." The World's Largest Chest of Drawers was built in 1926 and was once home to the Jaycees. This state is known for fine furniture, but really! Seeing is believing! A job well done! (800-720-5255)

5 Suites at Market Square
Found on the National Register of Historic Places, the Suites at Market Square is also North Carolina's biggest building. The building houses furniture showrooms that are rented out for conventions, businesses, and shows. It is the site of the International Home Furnishing Market which is held twice yearly in April and October. (336-821-1500, 800-677-6278)

4 Sawtooth School for Visual Arts
Found in downtown Winston-Salem, this school offers hands-on experiences in various mediums for both children and adults. The mediums include photography, metals, fiberglass and wood offering an unusual and informative experience. Fine arts and crafts are sold during their holiday event called Deck The Sawtooth Halls which is held in late November through mid-December. (336-723-7395)

3 The Big Coffee Pot
Situated on an island of grass and flowers, this quirky piece of history was created by the brothers Samuel and Julius Mickey. Standing seven feet three inches tall, it was used as an advertisement for their tin making business.

2 Korner's Folly
Built originally in the 1880's, this house has been remodeled into an unusual home by an eccentric artist and designer, Jule Gilmer Korner. A historic sight, its elaborate details are more story book than real. Built on seven levels with 22 rooms and 20 fireplaces, much of the interior is as strange as the outside, with carved details and entertaining doors. (336-996-7922)

1 Wake Forest University
While visiting the University's campus, be sure to see the chapel, Georgian architecture and the art museum. Campus is especially beautiful during early spring when hundreds of pear and dogwood trees are in bloom. (336-758-5255, 336-758-5000)
